Company negligence

Many people do not realise that a company has a legal obligation to look after their staff. This means that they should be doing everything they can to make sure that their staff stay safe as well as their customers. This is why there are so many health and safety rules in companies these days, they just want to make sure that they keep their employees safe.

Some people think that it is over the top. They feel that companies are really scared of someone claiming accident at work compensation, that they over the top rules and regulations. This may partly be true, but the compensation law has been put there to protect employees.

We certainly do not want things to go back to what they were like in Victorian times, when work accidents were common. It is nice to know that we are being looked after by our company and that they want to keep us safe. Most people are compassionate and they do not want their employees to get hurt. They want them to remain safe and happy. Of course it advantages them financially as well but this may not be their main motivator.

The company will have insurance to cover the cost of accident claims. They will not have to worry about the expense of them and so this is unlikely to be the main reason for their concerns. If they do make a lot of claims, then their premiums will increase a lot, but they may not even think about this. They also have legal obligations and so they could be prosecuted if they do not stick to health and safety rules. This is more likely to be a concern to them, but again it is more likely to be done out of compassion for their employees than legal or financial reasons.
